ZAGAT GUIDE BOOKS UP FOR SALE IN US
January 17th 2008 00:36
Zagat Survey LLC, America’s influential pocket-sized guidebook that uses consumer reviews to rate everything from Chinese food restaurants to day spas, said it is considering selling, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The company has hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc as its financial adviser, and is considering a sale or possible partnerships.
The Zagat Survey was started as a hobby in 1979 while Tim and Nina Zagat were working in Paris. Since then, the company has developed from a small review of selected restaurants in New York City, to a far-flung array of guides covering major US cities and regions as well as several international destinations, with more than 300,000 “surveyors” submitting material.
