AUSTRALIAN REPORTER FOR PHNOM PHEN POST DETAINED BY CAMBODIAN POLICE AT KHMER ROUGE TRIBUNAL HEARING
Phnom Penh Post reporter, Tracey Shelton formerly of Melbourne, Australia, was questioned for several hours on Wednesday by police after she photographed Khmer Rouge prison chief, Kaing Guek Eav aka Duch, at court outing at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.
The outing was part of the Khmer rouge tribunal being held in Phnom Penh.
Police also made Shelton erase digital photos she had taken of Duch.
Chamkar Mon district police chief Ouch Sokhon said Tracey Shelton had not been detained.
The Cambodian Daily said this was the second such incident in as many days and spread ill will through the press corps that waited for hours at the Genocide Museum.
A Khmer Rouge tribunal official said journalists and others could ace prosecution for violating the tribunal’s “confidentiality.”
